Alfie was a pioneer in ecotourism in the UAE, where he toyed the concept in his desert ranch where he raised camels, gazelle, cow, goat, sheep, donkey, pigeon and quail. This was before the commercial travel companies began to use the buzz word. The beduins in the area benefited from tourist visits, which were arranged in a small scale and the surrounding environment was kept clean by the ranch staff. After about four years Alfie succumbed to the lure of the plush greenery that rules the jungles of Sri Lanka. With the dawn of peace in the island paradise of Sri Lanka, the concept was transformed into a more exciting venture colored in shades of green in the selected location in Habarana.
